Since the All-star break, the season has been breaking badly for Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum, who has been defiant toward coach Mike Brown. Now the Lakers have fined Bynum an unspecified amount for undisclosed infractions, a person close to the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

Espnlosangeles.com first reported there had been multiple infractions, including blowing off a meeting with general manager Mitch Kupchak.

Bynum had been dealing with a sprained ankle this week and sat out Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Nets.

He was benched March 27 vs. the Golden State Warriors for taking and missing an ill-advised three-point shot in the third quarter of a close game, after hitting the first three of his career in the previous game.

Brown made it clear he wasn’t happy with Bynum’s decision-making. Yet Bynum said he would take another threepointer if he felt like it because he makes them in practice.

Bynum has flourished in Brown’s motion system that replaced former coach Phil Jackson’s triangle offense, with career highs of 17.9 points and 11.9 rebounds.

After Sunday’s win vs. the New Orleans Hornets, Bynum said he wouldn’t participate in huddles when he was not in the game. “I’m resting. Getting my Zen on,” he said.

The Lakers are expected to pick up a $16.1 million option to keep him for 2012-13. He could become a free agent after that.
