Verizon Wireless says on April 22, it will start charging $30 every time a subscriber wants to upgrade to a new phone. Verizon says the fee will help fund customer support and online educational tools. . . . Safety regulators have expanded an investigation into complaints of fires in Jeep Wranglers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is asking Chrysler for information on Wranglers from the 2007 through 2012 model years. Chrysler’s Eric Mayne said in an e-mail that the company is cooperating. . . . Two workers were hurt and about 80 evacuated after a lithium battery explosion at a General Motors technical center near Detroit during testing of an experimental battery, GM said. It also caused a small fire that was quickly extinguished. The condition of the workers was not known.
