Verizon Wireless says on April 22, it will start charging $30 every time a subscriber wants to upgrade to a new phone. Verizon says the fee will help fund customer support and online educationa­l tools. . . . Safety regulators have expanded an investigat­ion into complaints of fires in Jeep Wranglers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administra­tion is asking Chrysler for informatio­n on Wranglers from the 2007 through 2012 model years. Chrysler’s Eric Mayne said in an e-mail that the company is cooperatin­g. . . . Two workers were hurt and about 80 evacuated after a lithium battery explosion at a General Motors technical center near Detroit during testing of an experiment­al battery, GM said. It also caused a small fire that was quickly extinguish­ed. The condition of the workers was not known.
