Meyer responds to report
Urban Meyer has offered a spirited defense in response to a Sporting News article that alleged off-field issues during his tenure as Florida football coach.
Among the accusations were that Meyer gave star players preferential treatment and overlooked positive drug tests. He also allegedly told a recruit the current Florida locker room had character issues.
Meyer, speaking on the Big Ten’s spring conference call in his first appearance as Ohio State coach, disagreed.
“I’m not sure where a threemonth investigation shows up. . . . We were hired to graduate players. We did that,” Meyer said. “We were top three every year in the SEC in graduating and APR. We were hired to win games. We did that. We followed the rules. We recruited great classes. We finished in the top five every year.”
