Kings lead Canucks 3-0; Panthers end winless skid

-

Jonathan Quick made 41 saves and Dustin Brown scored on a long rebound with 13:30 to play as the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Kings pushed the Vancouver Canucks to the brink of elimination with a 1-0 victory in Game 3 on Sunday night.

Sunday’s other games

Brown’s fourth goal of the series put the Kings one win away from their first playoff series victory since 2001. He also put the two-time Presidents’ Trophywinning Canucks on the edge of a shocking playoff departure.

Quick hung on for his second career playoff shutout after setting a club record with 10 in the regular season, and the Kings snapped a five-game playoff losing streak at Staples Center.

Panthers 4, Devils 2

Stephen Weiss waited 10 years. The Florida Panthers waited 15 years. Fast start, frantic finish — and, finally, a moment to savor.

Weiss scored the first two playoff goals of his career, Jose Theodore stopped 23 shots and the Panthers got their first postseason win since April 17, 1997, topping the New Jersey Devils on Sunday to even the firstround series at a game apiece.

Clinging to a 3-2 lead, Florida lost a faceoff with 7.6 seconds left; New Jersey’s Ilya Kovalchuk had a chance to tie that was blocked, and Tomas Fleischmann scored an empty-net goal as time expired.

Fans littered the ice with hundreds of toy rats, a tradition that dates to the Panthers’ run to the 1996 Stanley Cup Final.
