Ann Romney had resources; she’s not an average mom

-

Ann Romney was recently criticized for never having worked a day in her life. True, motherhood is a full-time job, which most women would love to be able to do, but they do not have that choice. Romney had the resources to make that decision (“Democrat’s ‘work’ comment leaves everyone all worked up,” News, Friday).

The real heroes are the working moms who have to juggle a 9 a.m.-to-5 p.m. job, and come home and cook dinner, after which they help with homework. To say Ann Romney is your average, stay-athome mom is ridiculous. Glenn P. Chenot Knoxville, Tenn.

‘Stoking’ conflict?

Thank you for your article regarding Hilary Rosen’s comments. It showed the ways in which many people are stoking this incident (Rosen last week commented about Ann Romney having “never worked a day in her life”). I just have to disagree with the statement: “Ann Romney made a rare interview appearance on Fox News to stoke the controversy.”

Romney was defending herself, and it would be odd if she failed to speak up given the seriousness and thoughtlessness of the charge. While some are “stoking” this conflict, it is unfair to suggest Romney picked this fight. I strongly doubt that she takes any pleasure in this. Just ask any wom- an anywhere if she would enjoy having her decisions about work vs. family life reviewed in the news media. A side point: Rosen didn’t show remorse for what she said until there was public outcry about it, which makes her apology rather shallow.

Question made sense

As much attention as the comment about Ann Romney got, that is not the issue that has me most concerned. Even though Hilary Rosen misspoke, I understood that she meant to say that Ann Romney had never had a paying job outside the home. As a a mom who did not have the choice to stay home, I understand asking whether a stay-at-home mom does have the same pressures as working women and mothers.

The bigger issue for me: Why is Mitt Romney having to request an extension of his taxes? The tax deadline is not a surprise.

Mitt Romney has to be aware of the deadline and responsibilities of filing. If he is unable to manage his own business affairs in a timely manner, how could he run the U.S. government? Or is there something in his personal finances that he is trying to hide?
