Critic’s Corner

- By Robert Bianco

-There’s little reason to expect much from any new reality series, especially those that pretend to explore the work or relationship struggles of “real people,” when they actually have as much to do with the real world as Battleship. So why watch CBS’ latest genre entrant? If you love canines, the answer’s right there in the title: Dogs in the City (tonight, 8 ET/PT).

-Admittedly this is not an original question or complaint, but aren’t we past the Memorial Day holiday that marks the unofficial start of summer? And doesn’t summer seem like an odd time for a game on ice to be wrapping up with the NHL Stanley Cup

Finals (NBC, 8 ET/5 PT)? Just wondering — and wondering whether it might occur to someone that the length of the NHL’S season might explain, at least in part, why its ratings are usually among the sports world’s most anemic. That said, if your team’s in the finals, here’s hoping it gives you something to celebrate.

-Speaking of extended seasons, America’s Next Top Model (CW, 9 ET/PT), once one of TV’S buzzed-about contests, crowns its winner tonight in this post-tv-season finale. How the pretty have fallen.
