BEYOND THE NUMBERS

THE NEWS BEHIND THE RATINGS

- BY GARY LEVIN

TROPHY TIME

ABC’s 64th Primetime Emmy Awards claimed 13.3 million viewers Sunday, a 7% boost from last year’s telecast on Fox. But against top-rated Sunday

Night Football (21.3 million), host Jimmy Kimmel did little to win younger viewers: The awards narrowly edged a ratings low among that crowd set in 2008 following the TV writers’ strike, when five reality

hosts emceed the telecast.

THURSDAY WOES

NBC’s comedy lineup returned in sorry shape, even without much competition. Up All Night premiered with a near-low 3.1 million viewers behind the first SNL election special (5.1 million), down sharply from 2008’s;

The Office ( 4.3 million) started its final season 43% below last fall; and Parks

and Recreation drew 3.5 million. Better news Monday: New J.J. Abrams drama

Revolution enlisted 11.7 million fans.

REALITY CHECK ‘SURVIVOR’ 11.4 MILLION VIEWERS

With a million more than last fall’s premiere, Philippines opened Survivor’s 25th season Wednesday on CBS; Big Brother locked its house with

7.4 MILLION, down slightly; and Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance left the floor Tuesday with

4.7 MILLION , its lowest finish.
