Wyoming coach to miss game

- From wire reports

Wyoming football coach Dave Christensen was suspended for a week and fined $50,000 for his actions following an Oct. 13 loss to Air Force.

Athletics director Tom Burman said Monday that it was important to send the right message to the team about taking responsibility for your actions.

Christensen confronted Falcons coach Troy Calhoun on the field after Air Force’s 28-27 victory.

He accused the Falcons of faking an injury to their starting quarterback in the fourth quarter so they could set up the next play without a timeout. Air Force took the lead on the next play when backup quarterback Kale Pearson scored on a bootleg.

Assistant head coach Pete Kaligis will serve as interim head coach Saturday against No. 18 Boise State.

ACC actions: The Atlantic Coast Conference has issued one-game suspensions to North Carolina freshman linebacker Shakeel Rashad and three officials from the Duke-UNC and Florida State-Miami (Fla.) games.

In the Duke-UNC game, Rashad knocked down receiver Conner Vernon — who was already lined up — from behind while running in at the last moment from the sideline. Vernon returned on the next play.

The league also suspended head linesman Tyrone Davis and side judge Angie Bartis “for failure to adhere to correct mechanics of the game and rules related to player safety.”

UNC coach Larry Fedora said Monday that Rashad had no malice when he collided with Vernon.

The FSU-Miami officiating crew will receive letters of reprimand, while crew chief and referee David Epperley was suspended for failure to properly administer the 10-second runoff rule at the end of the first half.

Originally, after a Florida State false-start penalty, officials ruled the half over because the runoff would have erased the remaining time, so Miami left the field. But Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher used his last timeout to nullify the runoff, giving Dustin Hopkins a chance to kick the 46-yard field goal that gave FSU a 13-10 lead on the way to a 33-20 victory.

Also Monday, Florida State announced senior Chris Thompson, the 10th-ranked Seminoles’ leading rusher, would miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn knee ligament in the second quarter Saturday.
