Louisville QB moves on from pro day
After finishing a much-anticipated workout Monday that drew mixed reviews, Teddy Bridgewater had little time to deeply reflect on the moment. There’s more business at hand. “I really don’t know what’s being said about me,” the University of Louisville quarterback told USA TODAY Sports as he hustled out of the indoor practice facility. “I’m just trying to continue making progress, working hard every day to get better.”
Bridgewater isn’t sure what more he can do besides being genuine in the get-to-know-you sessions with the teams to separate himself from the other toprated quarterbacks in the draft, Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel or Central Florida’s Blake Bortles. Depending on who’s talking, any of the three rates as the top quarterback. It’s tight.
That’s why the workout Monday seemed to loom larger than normal, with Bridgewater’s misfires fueling more questions.
Ron Jaworski, an ESPN analyst, was so unimpressed that he has moved Bortles ahead of Bridgewater as the best quarterback prospect.
“Now I want to see if (Bortles) steps up to the plate,” Jaworski told USA TODAY Sports.
NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt cautioned about reading too much into Bridgewater’s outing.
Brandt is impressed by something beyond the throws.
“He acts like a quarterback,” Brandt told USA TODAY Sports.
Bridgewater has drawn rave reviews for his leadership and football acumen, which might be more important than flaws perceived during the workout.
