MILITANTS ATTACK AFGHAN HOTEL, POLICE STATION
Nine people were killed, including four foreigners, when four gunmen attacked a luxury hotel in Kabul on Thursday, just hours after militants killed 11 people in an assault on a police station in eastern Afghanistan. All the assailants were killed in both standoffs.
Deputy Interior Minister Gen. Mohammad Ayub Salangi said the Afghan fatalities at the hotel included two men, two women and one child; the foreigners included two women and two men.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the assault on the Serena hotel and the attack in Jalalabad.
