immigratio­n is changing one more aspect of American life. At the same time, the piece says these demographi­c changes show no sign of slowing down (“Immigrants alter black statistics,” News, Friday).

This air of inevitabil­ity about these huge, unplannedf­or changes being brought by our immigratio­n policy is nuts. We should have an immigratio­n timeout, starting now. Let’s study what immigratio­n policies are best for America and its citizens, not just what is best for the immigrants.

No country would let itself be changed the way we are without at least a cursory review. Now is the time for us to do it.
