WEINTRAUB DIES AT AGE 77

Hollywood mega-producer Jerry Weintraub, who produced hits such as “Ocean’s 11” and “The Karate Kid,” has died at age 77. Weintraub’s publicist Michelle Bega confirmed to USA TODAY that the producer died Monday of cardiac arrest. Weintraub’s career included time as a music tour promoter and a music manager, working with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley. Weintraub hit it big producing films with Robert Altman’s “Nashville” in 1975 and “The Karate Kid” with Ralph Macchio in 1984. Macchio tweeted: “So sad at loss of Jerry Weintraub, you were 1 of a kind, my friend. ... So glad I got to be ‘that kid.’”
