Planned Parenthood funding fight heats up
TWITTER @USATOPINION
We asked our followers what they thought of the push to defund Planned Parenthood. A republic provides options, even if we don’t agree. When we remove choice, we’re doing more harm.
@ParanormalSarah
Abortion is the evil without parallel in our time. Defund Planned Parenthood.
@revjonrobbins
Those pushing to defund Planned Parenthood don’t understand how it helps men, women and children. They think it’s all abortion.
@SueClarkArt
Transfer their funds to federally funded community clinics for those in need.
@GHFerdinand
The push is ridiculous and shameful. It is harming poor women only.
@dberl0909
We should never have been supporting them financially in the first place. They’re barbarians.

If you want to deny women health screening and birth control, and if you want lots of unwanted pregnancies, then go for it.

Commentary writer Ruben Navarrette
has poignantly captured the ambiguity that many prochoice advocates have over the Planned Parenthood videos (“Pro-choice, but with open eyes, heavy heart,” Opinion, Aug. 31).
The videos are grippingly repugnant, but they should not pre-empt our need for the benefits of fetal research based on abortions. Instead, there is the demand for curbing the callous and disgusting manner in which aborted fetuses are harvested and sold. All forms of human life, both actual and potential, deserve their appropriate form of respect.

I am 100% pro-choice. However, I do agree with those who believe that federal funding should be cut from Planned Parenthood.
In light of these recent videos, I don’t see how anyone can support this organization.
Sam Adams
Planned Parenthood is allowed by law to process fetal tissue at cost for research purposes. This is just another nonissue that the do-nothing-important Republicans want to use as a political football.
Gary Patton
Planned Parenthood has activism at its roots. Any program run like that should not be receiving federal funding. If you believe in what they are doing, you are free to financially support them.
