THE VISIT (FRIDAY) Two kids sent by their single mother to live with their grandparents find life going from weird to positively terrifying. But the real story is whether über-horror-producer Jason Blum can help steer M. Night Shyamalan back to his Sixth Sense form. A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY (OCT. 2) The campy tale brings Krampus, the anti-Santa, to wreak havoc on the tiny town of Bailey Downs, with its grumpy DJ (William Shatner). GOODNIGHT MOMMY (FRIDAY) Austrian filmmakers Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala show twins struggling with reality after their mother has face-changing cosmetic surgery. The well-regarded film is Austria’s entry for the Academy Awards. CRIMSON PEAK (OCT. 16) Guillermo del Toro turns to what he calls a “ghost story and gothic romance.” Set in a crumbling, haunted mansion, it features a young author (Mia Wasikowska) marrying Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston) while dealing with her highly suspicious new sister-in-law (Jessica Chastain) and supernatural secrets. SOME KIND OF HATE (SEPT. 18) Disney Channel star Sierra McCormick dramatically switches gears as a supernatural slasher on a mission for bloody retribution in this effort by first-time director Adam Egypt Mortimer. THE DIABOLICAL (OCT. 16) Ali Larter stars as a single mother whose family is tormented by paranormal occurrences in her home, forcing her to bring in her scientist boyfriend to deal with the problem. THE GREEN INFERNO (SEPT. 25) Eli Roth is back in the horror director’s chair in this longdelayed film (financial problems in production) about student activists taken hostage by the cannibalistic tribe they are trying to save. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION (OCT. 23) Producer Jason Blum promises that this is the final film of this
Paranormal franchise, after four chapters, one spinoff and slightly diminishing returns. He also promises to fully reveal past mysteries, such as the persistent demon Toby. Dead’s Sarah Wayne Callies star as parents who find that their child’s strange Halloween disappearance might have supernatural forces behind it. BONE TOMAHAWK (OCT. 23) Before Kurt Russell joins Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, he’s an Old West sheriff leading a killer posse (Patrick Wilson, Richard Jenkins, Matthew Fox) to fight cannibal savages.
