First outside group takes on Trump
The political arm of the Club for Growth on Tuesday announced a $1 million advertising campaign against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump — the first major attempt by an outside group to confront the brash billionaire.
The Club for Growth Action’s campaign, which will start Thursday in Iowa, is the latest salvo in the increasingly bitter feud between the conservative group and Trump.
In two, 30-second ads, the club highlights Trump’s past support for liberal policies, such as a single-payer health insurance.
“Trump wants us to think he’s Mr. Tell It Like It Is,” the narrator says. “But he has a record, and it’s very liberal. He really is just playing us for chumps.”
