Dig deeper into Flightgate
Last week, Jeff Smisek stepped down as United Airlines CEO amid a federal corruption probe and after an internal company investigation.
The “chairman’s flight” (a United route that benefited the former head of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey), is likely only the tip of the iceberg of airlines’ bribing and bullying everyone from lawmakers to Federal Aviation Administration inspectors.
The corruption within government is huge. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie appointed David Samson as Port Authority chairman. Christie seems to take the approach of don’t tell me anything I don’t need to know. I’m sure there are many players in this case, but most will fall away. The Feds only want the big names.
I hate flying United. Maybe another CEO will change things, but I doubt it.
