DOT NAMES TASK FORCE TO START REGISTERING DRONES
Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced an effort to register all drones to make tracking them easier after a collision or violation of safety rules.
He appointed a task force of two dozen members to develop recommendations by Nov. 20. The members include the Air Line Pi- lots Association, the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, the American Association of Airport Executives and the Academy of Model Aeronautics, which represents hobbyists.
The Federal Aviation Administration already requires registration numbers on commercial drones. It approved 1,891 special permits through Oct. 15 for purposes such as aerial photography, pipeline inspections and agricultural monitoring. — Bart Jansen
