DEADPOOL, SUITED UP

-

Reynolds says he “literally wept” when he was presented with his Deadpool costume. It was a sign that the movie was being done true to the comic character.

Unlike the suits of other Marvel stars such as Iron Man, it was actually comfortable to wear and required only 10 minutes to get geared up. Talking through the mask, crucial for the fast-talking Deadpool, was “a cinch” for Reynolds.

“After a while, it becomes a second skin,” he says. “When I got the mask and suit on, I kind of became Deadpool.”

The main problem was breaking in the new vinyl suits. The filmmakers made nine Deadpool outfits and destroyed seven during stuntwork. Each time Reynolds had to switch to a new suit, it required 40 minutes to squeeze into it and about six hours to truly break it in.

“I needed that time to warm up so I could move as quickly as I needed for the action,” Reynolds says. “If I had to wear a new suit, I would get to work a few hours early. I’d sit in my trailer with the heat on to get that suit fully worked in.”
