Free fireworks for your town
The competition for one town to win a July Fourth celebration with food, entertainment and fireworks is on.
Destination America, the cable TV network dedicated to exploring the nation, and USA TODAY will accept nominations for the fourth annual Red, White and You contest through April 3.
“Red, White and You honors towns that embody the American spirit in their own personal, uniquely local ways,” says Jane Latman, general manager of Destination America.
Towns in the 48 contiguous states and the District of Columbia are eligible. Those wishing to nominate their communities have to make their case in 150 words or less. A panel of judges will select one grand prize winner.
“It’s an honor to be a part of something that will unite deserving communities, and the only thing on the agenda is to have fun,” says Susan Motiff, vice president and general manager of USA TODAY.
Past winners have included Waveland, Miss., which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and Oroville, Calif., which suffered economic challenges because of the state’s drought.
