Charli XCX wants that ‘Trophy’

- Maeve McDermott

Maybe it’s mainstream pop superstardom or maybe it’s something larger — global dominance, maybe? — but Charli XCX’s sights are set on something huge on her new song, Trophy.

The 23-year-old British singer, who broke through with 2014’s Boom Clap, strikes a defiant pose on the stomping, M.I.A.-meets-Britney single. And she has every right to be confident: Trophy will appear on her new EP, Vroom Vroom, out March 25 on her just-launched very own label, Vroom Vroom Recordings.

So to recap: She doesn’t just have a huge voice and impressive style, but she writes her own music, releases her own music and, with her Beats 1 radio show, The Candy Shop, launching Friday, will curate what we’ll all be listening to next.
