Tate: I’d like to see Rousey-Holm II, too

Miesha Tate is set up to be the spoiler at UFC 196 on Saturday, when an upset victory against Holly Holm would dampen a hotly anticipated rematch between Holm and Ronda Rousey. But Tate has no desire to derail it.

“I’m interested to see the rematch as well,” Tate told USA TODAY Sports on Monday. “I thought the first fight was fascinating, and I’m curious to see what adjustments would be made on Ronda’s side, if any, and if Holly can do it again.”

But Tate indicated she plans to be only so accommodating in light of Rousey’s wishes. Three days ago, Rousey told TMZ Sports that she will be rooting for undefeated Holm to beat Tate.

“I need her to win,” said Rousey, who wanted more time off before fighting Holm (10-0) again. “I want to be the one to beat (Holm), so I don’t want anyone else to take the honor of beating her but myself.” Too bad, Tate said. “If that’s what she wants, sorry, but I’m going to ruin that for her,” Tate said, adding that a rematch might take place even if Tate holds the championship belt. “If they want to make that rematch happen, that’s how I see it going down, because on Saturday I’m going to go in there and I’m confident that I’m going to win the belt.

“So they’re definitely going to have to adjust the game plan. I would like to see Holly and Ronda fight again, but it just may not be for the belt.”
