TONIGHT ON TV

CRITIC’S CORNER

- USA TODAY Robert Bianco

THE VOICE NBC, 8 ET/PT

As a talent show, this NBC hit has been a bust, at least compared with American Idol. But as a TV show, it works fairly well, particularly in this first, spinningchair audition phase. And now fans have the added bonus of watching to see if they can catch any of the judges flirting, because apparently, The Voice is a hotbed of romance.

AGENT CARTER

ABC, 9 ET/PT

This Avengers spinoff ends its second season with a fast-moving outing that should please fans, assuming they can forgive a cheap cliffhanger that will prove even more annoying if the series isn’t renewed. Carter could have used sharper writing, better casting in some key secondary roles and more effective support from ABC and Marvel, which seemed to assume people would flock to the show without any encouragement. But it has a solid central trio in Hayley Atwell, James D’Arcy and Enver Gjokaj, and an entertainingly unusual period setting — and that’s more than enough reason to root for its return.

THE GRINDER

FOX, 9:30 ET/PT

Jason Alexander returns to this sitcom, most likely as part of Stewart’s attempt to get Dean back to his old Grinder ways. Let’s hope that helps Stewart calm down a bit: This is a very good show, but it’s better when Stewart keeps at least some of his wits about him.
