FORMER COWBOY SPILLMAN CONVICTED OF RAPE
Former Dallas Cowboys specialteams player C.J. Spillman was convicted of sexual assault in a 2014 incident at a Dallas-area hotel. A Tarrant County (Texas) jury deliberated for less than two hours Thursday before returning a guilty verdict. Prosecution spokeswoman Samantha Jordan says the punishment phase will resume Friday, and Spillman could be sentenced to two to 20 years in prison. Grapevine police say a woman reported Spillman raped her Sept. 20 at the Gaylord Texan Resort, where he was staying. Thursday, Spillman testified to having sex with the woman but said it was consensual.
