Are terrorist attacks adequately reported?

-

FACEBOOK FACEBOOK.COM/ USATODAYOPINION The White House released a list on Monday of 78 terrorist attacks “executed or inspired” by the Islamic State terror group, claims that it supports President Trump’s assertion that news organizations are failing to adequately report on terror attacks.

How did White House compile the list of terror attacks? Officials researched news reports on the Internet, that’s what they probably did. What does that mean? It was covered by the news media.

Yet not a peep from the White House about the attack on a mosque in Canada last week. Thomas Pound

The White House’s assertion is that the attacks on its list were underreported. Not every attack is on its list.

If whoever compiled the list doesn’t think the Canadian attack was underreported, then of course it isn’t on the list. James Tapley

No mention of the attack in Canada last week that killed six people. Funny, no condemnation from Trump when it happened. He hasn’t even mentioned it at all! Why? Because it doesn’t fit his narrative when the terrorist looks like him. Flip Stargell

It is painful to watch Trump’s team squirm and twist trying to clean up after the president’s many irrational statements. Trump and his minions just can’t understand why he can’t control the news in the same way his buddy Russian President Vladimir Putin does. Tom Hensley

If there is one thing the news media overreports, it is terrorist attacks. Walt Stasinski

I don’t know what news sources Trump is using, but I have read stories on virtually every one of these incidents.

Maybe Trump should spend more time checking the news and less time watching “Saturday Night Live.” Arnold Indictor

The news media are only interested in large terror attacks they can’t ignore. Single-digit deaths are insignificant. Fleetwood Davant TWITTER @USATOPINION Followers shared their thoughts on White House claims that news outlets failed in their coverage of 78 terror attacks. Someone must agree with me that this is not how the president should be spending his/our time. @warrencowart50 Ironically, it only knows of the attacks from the very same news media outlets it criticizes. @MyInfo12359906 Our media need to slant their writing to support a sovereign nation, not oppose it. @SirSoccer On the 10th day of crazy a president gave to me: Fake terrorist attacking, dead people voting, no Russian hacking, where are the taxes? @morpheuswaking Maybe if Trump stopped focusing on scanning for news reports about himself, he would know these were covered. @angelajs For more, follow @USATOpinion or #tellusatoday.
