Kendrick Lamar’s ‘The Heart Part 4’

- Erin Jensen

Here’s one way to cope if someone kills your vibe today — Kendrick Lamar has released a new song. In The Heart Part 4, Lamar starts off rapping about his success and traveling “round the atlas in this spaceship candy-coated,” but, about halfway through the song, his rhymes turn political. “Donald Trump is a chump, know how we feel, punk/ Tell ’em that God comin’/And Russia need a replay button, y’all up to somethin.’ ” During an interview with T, Lamar used a metaphor to describe his upcoming album. “At one point in time, I may have a little girl who grows up and tells me about her engagements with a male figure — things that most men don’t want to hear,” he shared. “Learning to accept it, and not run away from it, that’s how I want this album to feel.” Lamar’s new track also might have a hint about his next album. “You know what time it is, ante up, this is in forever,” he spits. “Y’all got till April the 7th to get ya’ll s - - - together.”
