Find other ways to execute if drugs aren’t available

LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

The death penalty does have some supporters and some opponents.

But capital punishment does not go against the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution.

Even here in Arkansas, capital punishment is also facing legal challenges from many people and groups who oppose it. Meanwhile, Leslie Rutledge is trying to do her job as Arkansas’ attorney general, especially on the issue of the death penalty. John Huerta Warren, Ark.

I can drink a cup of milk a day or two after the expiration date, so these guys on death row should be fine if their execution drugs are a day or two past the expiration date, too.

Shawn Dean

The Supreme Court thinks of every reason possible to preserve life of convicted murderers but refuses to give such consideration to preserving the life of innocent unborn children.

Julius Dooley

These inmates killed people, and that’s OK? Hang them, if the drug is too painful.

Gene Mills

No legal system is perfect. There are instances of people on death row who were innocent. You can’t undo an execu-

tion; therefore, the death penalty should be done away with — as it has been in most civilized countries. Life in prison should be the maximum penalty.

Arnold Indictor

These men have been on death row for years. Execute them another way and start saving some taxpayers money.

Robert Benning

The justice system has jailed innocent people. Is it possible that it has also executed innocent people?

Walt Stasinski

Their victims likely suffered plenty before they died. These aren’t decent people being executed. It seems like a fair trade, since you can’t undo what they did.

We asked our followers their thoughts on the death penalty and whether they support it.

All for the death penalty. And against the years of costly appeals. Murderers, rapists and child abusers don’t deserve to live.

@joyabsalon

Against the death penalty, but it should be an option for people sentenced to life with no chance of parole.

@christinaph84

I’m for the death penalty, if DNA evidence was used in the conviction, or there’s footage showing the perpetrator committing the crime. Evidence must be absolute. Then, only one appeal.

@Deplorable1Bill

The death penalty is bad because there’s no way to resurrect people in case of a mistake.

@husrevo

Against. A human life is a human life. Government is inept at all levels, what makes it infallible regarding the death penalty?
