Only two people actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776: John Hancock and Charles Thomson, secretary of Congress. Most of the others signed on Aug. 2.
One president, Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4. So were Nathaniel Hawthorne and Malia Obama.
Three presidents have died on July 4 — John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe. Adams and Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the country they helped found.
