CALHOUN TO COACH?

- — Nina Mandell

Jim Calhoun might be considering a comeback to the basketball sideline. The longtime University of Connecticut coach said he is an unpaid adviser to the University of St. Joseph (in West Hartford, Conn.) to help build a new men’s basketball program and that he wouldn’t rule out coaching there. “I’m not at the point of accepting or rejecting (anything),” he told USA TODAY Sports. The university, which had accepted only female students, announced in June that it would open its doors to all students in 2018. Calhoun’s possible return to coaching was first reported by The Hartford Courant. The coach stepped down in 2012 from UConn, where he won three national titles in 26 seasons. He has worked as an ESPN analyst as well as an adviser to UConn. The program at St. Joseph would be in Division III — a far cry from the national stage where Calhoun once ruled. “If I thought I could help the kids there, I’d consider it,” Calhoun said of possibly taking a job with the school.
