SLOW DOWN ON MEDICAID CHANGES, STATES TELL GOP

A group that represents state officials who administer Medicaid programs is telling Senate Republican­s to slow down and rethink their latest health care bill.

The board of the National Associatio­n of Medicaid Directors said Thursday its members are concerned that the Senate is rushing to make major changes in health programs for low-income people — with far-reaching consequenc­es for state budgets.

EPA WORKERS ATTENDING ANTI-LEAKING CLASSES

Employees at the Environmen­tal Protection Agency are attending mandatory training sessions this week to reinforce their compliance with laws and rules against leaking classified or sensitive government informatio­n.

It is part of a broader Trump administra­tion order for antileaks training at all executive branch agencies. The Associated Press obtained training materials from the hourlong class.

BABY WHOSE MOTHER SACRIFICED LIFE HAS DIED

A tiny preemie whose gravely ill mother had hoped to save her by shunning chemothera­py during pregnancy has died, a relative said Thursday.

Sonya Nelson said her niece, Life Lynn DeKlyen, died Wednes- day evening at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Life’s mother, Carrie DeKlyen, died Sept. 9, three days after giving birth to her sixth child.

10TH PATIENT FROM FLORIDA NURSING HOME DIES

A 10th patient from a Florida nursing home that lost its air conditioni­ng during Hurricane Irma died Wednesday.

Hollywood police said Thursday that Martha Murray’s death was related to the problems at the facility after Irma. The state has suspended the facility’s license while the owners have sued the state to block its actions.

DREW PETERSON CONVICTION FOR WIFE’S MURDER UPHELD

The use of hearsay testimony to convict former Chicago-area police officer Drew Peterson in the death of his third wife was proper, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled Thursday in upholding the conviction.

The high court, in a unanimous decision, found that hearsay testimony from Peterson’s dead third wife and missing fourth wife did not violate his constituti­onal right to confront his accusers because of evidence that Peterson killed them to prevent their testimony.

Peterson, 63, is serving a 38year sentence in the 2004 death of ex-wife Kathleen Savio.
