Jerusalem is Israel’s rightful capital
For Israel to claim Jerusalem as its capital, and the United States to officially acknowledge it, is a blatant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, as well as international law.
For President Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital speaks volumes about his character — rather, his lack of character. I wonder if it’s even possible for Trump to act presidential. Maurice Skibba Arvada, Colo.
The humor in some of the reactions to Trump’s acknowledgment of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital may be accidental, but they are laughable nonetheless. The first unintentional joke is the reference to the “peace process” in the Middle East. This charade has been going on since the Arab-Israeli conflict. Now, as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It’s the Palestinians rather than the Arabs who refuse to live in peace with a Jewish nation. If the Palestinians wanted peace, there would be peace — not a process to it.
Then there is Mahmoud Abbas’ warning that this change in U.S. policy could have dangerous consequences. Palestinian leadership has never needed anyone’s help in sparking violence, as they most recently watched the murders of two Temple Mount policemen, three members of a Jewish family sitting down to a Sabbath dinner, and a 13year-old Jewish girl murdered as she slept earlier this year.
One also has to chuckle at the world leaders expressing their concern over more violence, when they have done everything in their power to advance Palestinian terrorism against Israel. If they were as concerned as they pretended to be, they would cut off funds to the Pal- estinians until they agreed to the Palestinian State that they’ve violently rejected upon every Israeli offer.
And don’t forget, Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967. The Jordanians had occupied it since 1948 and had ethnically cleansed all the Jews. Israel reunited the city and has allowed free access to members of all religions. Harry Onickel Ferndale, Mich.
