Jeep hopes new Cherokee has wider appeal
DETROIT – Fiat Chrysler is offering a sneak peek of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee, revealing some changes that will make it looks less polarizing.
That’s the word tossed around in Detroit for vehicles with a cutting-edge appearance that people either love or hate, with little in between.
Now that it has been given headlights that are more conventional looking and not as narrow, the new Cherokee may appeal to a wider audience.
The Italian-American automaker released four images of the SUV ahead of the vehicle’s formal unveiling next month at the Detroit auto show.
“The most capable midsize sportutility vehicle (SUV) boasts a new, authentic and more premium design, along with even more fuel-efficient powertrain options,” it said.
The vehicle is one of two the company will feature ahead of its official debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month. The company also is rolling out a new Ram 1500 pickup.
At the recent Los Angeles Auto Show, Mike Manley, who heads Jeep and Ram for Fiat Chrysler, said Cherokee “is really important for the brand ... because it enters the biggest SUV segment in the world, and we’ll build on the progress that we made with today’s Cherokee.”
