Trump, we beg you, think before tweeting
LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM
In just 24 hours last Tuesday, President Trump fired off a barrage of 16 tweets. None was perhaps more electrifying or alarming than his reaction to what North Korean leader Kim Jun Un said about his nuclear button. Trump countered that he not only also has a nuclear button on his desk, but that his button was “bigger” and “works.” It’s hard to imagine a more cavalier, offhand comment on a serious topic than our nuclear strike capability. There’s no fear greater than a nuclear war, especially if you live in South Korea or Japan.
Mr. President, do you even think about the consequences before you fire off a tweet? Your words have consequences, some of which you may intend and many others unintended. If you’re not giving any real thought to the meaning of words, it is scary and alarming. Please, use your unprecedented pulpit in a more responsible fashion. As you yourself like to say in a different context, “The whole world is watching.” Ken Derow Swarthmore, Pa.

Liberals in the news media (and elsewhere) don’t see that they are being duped. President Trump is as sane as all the rest of us, and he is forcing liberals into a hysteria so that they appear out of touch and crazy. It’s working. Edward Cheshier
It’s been clear for the past 18 months, or more, that Trump was mentally incompetent and unfit for the office of the president.
The rest of the Republicans have also proved that they are unfit for office by supporting this administration for purely partisan reasons. They are a disgusting lot. Lyle Bialk
What I can’t understand, and am actually sad about, is that so many Trump supporters are showing that they do not care about the future of the country. Paul Rath
