Jack White’s ‘Connected’
For a Jack White song, there are surprisingly few of his signature electric guitar squalls. Instead, the Detroit soul-rock titan’s new solo track Connected by Love, the first single from his forthcoming album Board
ing House Reach, begins with a pulsing synth, wavering in and out of key as White wails about love and suffering, the two emotions fusing into one desperate plea. One by one, the song incorporates the gospel choir and vintage organs often heard in White’s music, with his inevitable guitar solo barreling like a freight train through the middle by the song. By the end, Connected by Love is a soulful cacophony, just as White likes it.
