Act on gun control on Election Day

-

LETTERS LETTERS@USATODAY.COM

How many more innocent kids need to die in front of our eyes before voters realize that their vote has more power than the National Rifle Association’s money? We could stop this mass shooting if we go out in masses and vote in the midterm elections this year. We need to vote out of office any candidate who doesn’t support gun control legislation. Every single time another shooting happens, we send our condolences, thoughts and prayers. We order flags to fly at half-staff, call the shooter mentally disturbed, and visit family members of the deceased and injured. And the cycle keeps repeating.

These actions of ours haven’t stopped these shootings because Congress has not done a thing to curb gun violence. America leads the world in school shootings. We have to confront the problem seriously and we need to confront this problem now. See you on Nov. 6, Election Day. Masood Akhtar Middleton, Wis.

It's not the NRA. It's the deterioration of our once civil society into a society that cheapens human life and glorifies violence. Until that is resolved, killers will continue to kill, no matter the tool. Barry VanTrees

Politicians can’t fix this problem. You can’t write laws that govern how we treat each other, how parents choose to raise their kids or common sense. Until kids are taught respect and to respect people who are different, this will continue to happen. I drive on the interstate every morning and there is very little respect for the laws written for driving. I’m pretty sure other laws won’t be followed. Derek Biddinger

Congress should act slowly on the gun control issue. The emotion-driven liberals who are demanding action have no grasp on the gravity of this debate. Edgar Fuss
