As the long-running reality competitio­n series returns for its 36th season, a new group of castaways is trying to “reverse the curse” of past seasons and avoid the bad decisions that doomed so many contestant­s. The new crop of survivors includes a music teacher, a social media strategist, a marine-animal trainer and a furniture designer in its ranks.

The Assassinat­ion of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story FX, 10 ET/PT

As the series continues moving backward in time, we get to know more about spree killer Andrew Cunanan’s (Darren Criss) backstory and the how he became intertwine­d with the men he would murder. Tonight’s episode shows Cunanan at a particular­ly desperate period of his life and depicts the beginnings of his relationsh­ip with David Madson (Cody Fern), with whom he becomes obsessed. Criss’ performanc­e remains unsettling, managing to make Cunanan terrifying even in episodes without scenes of violence.

Designated Survivor ABC, 10 ET/PT

The political thriller returns after a winter break, and it has been 10 weeks since President Kirkman’s (Kiefer Sutherland) wife, Alex (Natascha McElhone), was killed in a car accident. Kirkman, still reeling from the tragedy, begins seeing a therapist (Timothy Busfield) at the insistence of his staff.
