Target’s new tech gadgets aimed at Millennials, rivals

- Charisse Jones USA TODAY

Target is now putting its stamp on its own line of electronics.

Heyday, which features brightly colored ear buds, patterned tablet covers, and waterproof speakers among other accessories, is now on sale — and nearly all the items will cost $20 or less.

Target’s cheap but chic take on tech is aimed at winning the highly coveted attention of Millennials.

And it may also may make it more competitive with electronics giants such as Best Buy and Apple.

“Target is known for creating exclusive brands that are stylish, inspirational and affordable,” Mark Tritton, Target’s executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, said in a blog post.

“When we looked at the current options our guests had in electronics, we saw an opportunity.”

Target has become a fashion favorite because of its collaborations with top designers such as Victoria Beckham, tie-ups with popular brands such as Hunter, and collections designed by taste makers such as Chip and Joanna Gaines, former hosts of the hit TV show Fixer Upper.

But Target also has sought to make a mark with its own inhouse brands, a path taken by other retailers — from Walmart to Macy’s — who want to remain destinations for shoppers who can buy pretty much anything they want by simply clicking on Amazon.
