Retired Washington archbishop accused of sexually abusing teen

Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the retired Roman Catholic archbishop of Washington, D.C., is accused of having sexually abused a teenager 47 years ago while he was a priest in New York, church officials said Wednesday.

The allegation­s, called “credible and substantia­ted” by church officials, led the cardinal to step down from active ministry, according to the Archdioces­e of Washington. McCarrick, 87, denied the allegation in a statement.
