Retired Washington archbishop accused of sexually abusing teen
Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, the retired Roman Catholic archbishop of Washington, D.C., is accused of having sexually abused a teenager 47 years ago while he was a priest in New York, church officials said Wednesday.
The allegations, called “credible and substantiated” by church officials, led the cardinal to step down from active ministry, according to the Archdiocese of Washington. McCarrick, 87, denied the allegation in a statement.
