KROGER TO TEST DRIVERLESS VEHICLES FOR DELIVERY
Kroger announced Thursday it is launching a test of grocery delivery by driverless vehicle. The supermarket chain is partnering with Nuro, a Silicon Valley tech company that has developed a small, autonomous vehicle specifically for delivery. Customers in the pilot program will be able to place same-day delivery orders through Kroger’s ClickList ordering system and Nuro’s app. The electric-powered vehicle, called the R1, is about half as wide and long as a large SUV and can hold about 20 grocery bags. Customers, who must be home to accept delivery, can retrieve their groceries with a code via the app.
