For my entire life, The Capital has been my hometown newspaper. My family and I have enjoyed special relationsh­ips with many great people who have worked for the newspaper. My heart goes out to the victims, their families and the entire Annapolis community for this terrible and senseless tragedy.”

Statement from Patriots coach Bill Belichick, whose father, Steve, was an assistant coach at the Naval Academy, on the shooting that took the lives of five employees of the paper. The first memorial service is Monday for Rob Hiaasen. Belichick grew up and attended high school in Annapolis.

Former Wimbledon champ Andy Murray to reporters on his status prior to an announceme­nt Sunday that he would withdraw from the tournament citing continued problems with a hip injury. This was to be Murray’s first appearance at a Grand Slam since he fell in five sets to American Sam Querrey in last year’s Wimbledon quarterfin­al. That was the last time that Murray played on the tour before last month.
