World-record number of hot dogs eaten in 10 minutes Wednesday by defending champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut to claim his 11th Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest title at New York’s Coney Island boardwalk. Miki Sudo won her fifth women’s title in a row, downing 37 hot dogs.

Consecutiv­e Division I Learfield Directors’ Cup titles for Stanford. Fellow Pac-12 school UCLA was runner-up. The all-sports competitio­n was developed as a joint effort between the National Associatio­n of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA TODAY. California Baptist won Division II, Williams (Mass.) Division III and Oklahoma City NAIA.

College football programs that will be on the field by the 2020 season, a record, according to the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame. Seven schools will field new programs this coming season followed by a combined five over the following two seasons. This includes all NCAA divisions and the NAIA.
