Mistrial declared for ex-Michigan trooper accused of murder

A Michigan judge declared a mistrial Wednesday after jurors failed to reach a verdict in the murder trial of a former state trooper who used a stun gun on a Detroit teenager before the teen was killed in a crash.

Mark Bessner shot 15-year-old Damon Grimes with a Taser from a moving patrol car in August 2017. Bessner, who is white, told jurors he feared the teenager had a gun, but he was wrong. Grimes, who was black, crashed his ATV into a pickup truck and died.

Bessner, 44, will be retried.

Suspect in slayings at Kentucky Kroger grocery store is indicted

The man accused in the shooting deaths of two grocery store patrons in Kentucky has been indicted on two counts of murder. Prosecutor­s said Gregory Bush, 51, was indicted Wednesday by a Jefferson County grand jury in the shootings a week ago at a Kroger store in suburban Louisville. Bush was also indicted on one count of criminal attempted murder and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerme­nt.

Relief: Police in Kansas City recover stolen inflatable colon

There was a sigh of relief after police recovered a giant inflatable colon that is used to teach about the dangers of colon cancer. Police in Kansas City, Missouri, announced Tuesday on Twitter that a tip led officers to locate the “pilfered intestine” inside a vacant house. Police say no one has been arrested. The 150pound prop is worth $4,000.

Water park co-owner faces new charges, including for drugs

The co-owner of a Kansas water park who is accused in the decapitati­on death of a 10-year-old boy has been charged with drug possession and hiring someone for sex. The Kansas City Star reports Schlitterb­ahn co-owner Jeff Henry surrendere­d to authoritie­s in Kansas on Monday and was released on $100,000 bond.

Henry is already facing second-degree murder and other charges in the August 2016 death of Caleb Schwab.

Khashoggi was strangled and dismembere­d, Turkey says

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was strangled and his body dismembere­d soon after he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2, the Turkish prosecutor’s office said.

Khashoggi’s body parts were disposed of after being dismembere­d, the office said Wednesday in a report obtained by Turkey’s Anadolu news agency.

Searchers may have located fuselage of crashed Lion Air jet

A search operation may have found the location of the fuselage of the Lion Air plane that crashed Monday in the Java Sea, killing all 189 on board.

Indonesia armed forces chief Hadi Tjahjanto said he had been briefed by the head of the nation’s search and rescue agency about the “strong possibilit­y of the location” of the jet. Separately, the head of the National Transporta­tion Safety Committee said pings detected by search teams are definitely from the aircraft’s flight recorder because of their regular interval.
