This ‘Outlaw’ Chris is the one you can Pine for

- Kelly Lawler

No battle for the title of best Hollywood Chris is legitimate without Chris Pine. ❚ While some may prefer Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth or Chris Pratt, there is a solid case to be made for Pine, who brings as much delight and muscles to every role he plays as much as any other Chris.

❚ Netflix is blessing us with a new Chris Pine movie this weekend, the historical epic “Outlaw King” (streaming now). In honor of the film, we picked five of Pine’s best films that are available to rent or stream. And as is fitting for the incredibly charming actor, there is more than one movie on the list in which he plays a prince.

If you ever imagined Pine were your boyfriend ‘Wonder Woman’

As if there weren’t enough reasons to watch the staggering 2017 superhero film, from its stunning fight scenes to Gal Gadot’s rousing performance, you have a great Pine performance nestled between gods and Amazons. As Steve Trevor, Diana Prince’s love interest and guide to the human world, Pine is magnetic, managing to pull off Trevor’s cunning and kind halves easily without ever draining attention away from Gadot. Stream it on HBOGo/Now.

If you love a good Prince Charming ‘The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’

Revisit the film that introduced the world to the oh-so-charming Chris Pine smile. The cheesy, candy-colored sequel to “The Princess Diaries” is a mess of a film, but when Pine is on screen, it’s a good old-fashioned romantic comedy where the leads hate each other before they love each other. And who could hate that? Stream it on Netflix.

If you love a good Prince Charming, but one who sings ‘Into the Woods’

If you’re looking for a prince who a) sings, and b) is a bigger doofus than the one Pine plays in “Princess Diaries,” look no further than the 2014 adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s classic fairy-tales-gone-wrong musical. Pine plays Cinderella’s Prince, a man with a focus so singular he doesn’t even get a first name. Pine’s prince sings, dances and smolders all over the place, romancing not just Anna Kendrick’s Cinderella but also Emily Blunt’s Baker’s Wife. And you, of course. Rent or buy it on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu or YouTube.

If you love classic sci-fi ‘Star Trek’ trilogy

“Princess Diaries” may have introduced us to Pine, but playing Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot made him a star. Pine’s Kirk has, if pos- sible, more swagger than William Shatner’s original, smirking his way through an adventure on the U.S.S. Enterprise alongside Zachary Quinto as Spock and Zoe Saldana as Uhura. Stream the first film on Amazon.

If you don’t mind when he’s rough around the edges ‘Hell or High Water’

Pine’s best performance comes from director Taylor Sheridan’s modern western, in which Pine stars alongside Ben Foster and Jeff Bridges. Pine and Foster play brothers who, faced with the foreclosure of their mother’s home, set off on a bank robbery spree to raise the money to keep it. Stream it on Showtime.
