Survey says Heisman race tightens
Tagovailoa, Murray nearly even in latest vote
With two weeks until Heisman Trophy ballots are due, the race is tightening.
As he has all season, Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa holds the lead in the USA TODAY Network weekly survey.
But Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray gained ground again and now trails the frontrunner by just five points.
Tagovailoa did have a solid outing in the Crimson Tide’s win against The Citadel, though he and the rest of the team had to work harder for it than their fans would have liked. He regained the national lead in passer rating at 212.22 and now has 31 touchdown throws with just two picks.
Murray flashed his arm and his speed in the Sooners’ victory against Kansas. He has accounted for 44 total touchdowns, including 10 by land, and 4,049 yards of total offense. He was listed first by a season-high five of the 14 official Heisman voters who submitted surveys this week.
Gardner Minshew II of Washington State is in third place with nine points, picking up a second-place mention after tossing a career-best seven touchdown
passes in a blowout of Arizona. He continues to lead the Football Bowl Subdivision in passing yardage and total offense.
