HIGHLIGHT: COLORADO
Fort Collins: The latest effort to relocate a prairie dog colony from a city neighborhood is about wrapped up. This time, organizers of the rodent rescue hope animals moved to Cathy Fromme Prairie Natural Area on the southwest side of the city settle in to the new home better than some of their predecessors. With the move, the animals were spared certain death at future construction sites for uncertain fates on the remnants of a prairie ecosystem. But at least they have a chance to survive and possibly flourish. About 200 prairie dogs have been moved from lots in Old Town North that eventually will be transformed into housing.
