Alabama ranks No. 1 in early signing period, too

Ranking the top 25 classes in the Football Bowl Subdivisio­n’s early signing period (the next signing period is early February):

1. Alabama: Landed top Chosen 25 running back Trey Sanders. Alabama also signed elite quarterbac­k Taulia Tagovailoa, Tua’s brother, and five-star defensive end Antonio Alfano.

2. Georgia: Missed on running back Trey Sanders but signed Chosen 25 prospects Nolan Smith, a defensive end, and Nakobe Dean, a linebacker.

3. Texas A&M: Have Chosen 25 offensive tackle Kenyon Green along with defensive tackle DeMarvin Leal. The Aggies signed 22 in all.

4. LSU: Highlights are Chosen 25 prospects Derek Stingley, the top cornerback in the country, and John Emery Jr., a running back.

5. Michigan: Flipped Chosen 25 safety Daxton Hill from Alabama, highlighti­ng a stellar class of 27.

6. Oregon: Reeled in the top overall prospect in the Chosen 25 and All-USA Defensive Player of the Year Kayvon Thibodeaux, a defensive end.

7. Clemson: Landed elite cornerback Andrew Booth and Chosen 25 wide receiver Frank Ladson.

8. Oklahoma: Might have found a replacemen­t for Kyler Murray in Spencer Rattler, a Chosen 25 prospect. WR Theo Wease Jr., a fellow Chosen 25 prospect, is another big fish in a strong class.

9. Penn State: Held on to all 18 commits, including Chosen 25 linebacker Brandon Smith.

10. Texas: Got a big-time prospect in

offensive tackle Tyler Johnson, plus wide receiver Jordan Whittingto­n, to lead 21 signees.

11. Notre Dame: Signed 20, including elite offensive lineman John Olmstead and safety Kyle Hamilton.

12. Ohio State: Signed 15, most notably Chosen 25 defensive end Zach Harrison. 13. Auburn: Highlights are Chosen 25 linebacker Owen Pappoe and elite quarterbac­k Bo Nix.

14. Washington: Got a star in defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele, crown jewel of the 21-man class.

T-15. Florida: Tight end Keon Zipperer, defensive end Lloyd Summerall and guard Deyavie Hammond highlight 21man class. T15. Tennessee: Held on to Chosen 25 offensive tackle Wanya Morris, the star of 21-man class.

17. Arkansas: Added talent at skill positions with wide receivers Trey Knox and Shamar Nash.

18. Florida State: Lost out on a few elite prospects, including quarterbac­k Mack Brown, but have elite cornerback Akeem Dent committed, though he’s unsure whether he’ll sign during the early period.

19. Mississipp­i State: The 24-man class is highlighte­d by quarterbac­k Garrett Shrader and offensive tackle Charles Cross.

20. Nebraska: Added nine linemen, including defensive end Ty Robinson.

21. Stanford: Made big splash with elite defensive end Joshua Pakola and wide receiver Elijah Higgins, highlighti­ng 21-man class.

22. South Carolina: Talented class highlighte­d by Chosen 25 defensive end Zacch Pickens and quarterbac­k Ryan Hilinski.

23. Mississipp­i: Landed a star in wide receiver Dannis Jackson, highlighti­ng talented 28-man class.

24. Southern California: Lost significan­t players the last two months but still have stars such as offensive lineman Jason Rodriguez and cornerback Max Williams.

25. North Carolina State: Inked 19, including elite defensive end Savion Jackson and defensive tackle Josh Harris.
