As Harvey Weinstein’s criminal case moves to trial in New York, the former mogul scored a win Wednesday on the West Coast when a court dismissed part of Ashley Judd’s sexual harassment suit against him. Judge Philip S. Gutierrez of the United States District Court in Los Angeles ruled Wednesday that the actress’ sexual harassment claim does not fall within the scope of a California statute. But the judge said Judd may proceed to trial with three separate allegations against Weinstein: defamation, economic interference and unfair competition, according to Judd’s lawyer.
