What is CBD?
❚ CBD is short for cannabidiol, a compound extracted from cannabis plants. In most cases, CBD products contain virtually no THC, so they won’t get you high.
❚ Some enthusiasts say CBD reduces anxiety, inflammation and seizures. Many doctors are skeptical of CBD because it hasn’t undergone the same kinds of medical trials as modern medicine.
In December, the FDA reminded producers that specific health claims about CBD are illegal unless the products have undergone federal approval and regulation. It also warned that adding CBD to food products could violate food supplement safety laws.
