Royal wedding ‘magical’ for pals
Markle’s former co-stars: Event changed lives.
PASADENA, Calif. – It’s not every day that your friend becomes a member of British royalty. So Meghan Markle’s former “Suits” co-star Gina Torres and executive producer Aaron Korsh had a great experience attending Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry.
The pair talked about the fairy-tale wedding during a Television Critics Association panel to discuss “Suits” spinoff “Pearson,” due this summer, which finds Torres’s disbarred lawyer, Jessica Pearson, moving from New York to her hometown, Chicago. There, she gets involved in the very different world of city politics as the mayor’s fixer.
“Gina and I went to the wedding. It was a once-in-a-lifetime magical experience,” Korsh said. “The thing I’ll say about that was we all went as a family, 10 of us or something like that, and our spouses and families that had all been working there for 10 years. And had we just gone to London for no reason other than to have a reunion, it would have been an amazing thing.
“The next day, we went to a worldwide event. It was unbelievable and I think it changed our lives in certain ways forever. But if it had never happened, we were a family on ‘Suits’ for 10 years and that’s the most important thing to me,” he said.
Torres agreed. “I had a great time. He said it beautifully. I would have added more, but that was perfect.”
A reporter asked if any of “Suits” actors would show up on “Pearson,” and specifically Markle.
Torres jokingly responded, “Who?” Another panel member noted the simple reason why that won’t happen: “She’s now a duchess.”
Torres, whose character will dress more casually at times in Chicago but retain her New York high style, said there will be some famous names moving over to appear with her on “Pearson.”
“A journalist had asked me, ‘Are we going to see any of Jessica’s friends from the ‘Suits’ world?’ I said, absolutely. Christian Dior will be there. Prada will be there.’ ”
