Lizzo, Missy Elliott’s ‘Tempo’
Lizzo is one of the best things to happen to hip-hop in the past few years – a talented vocalist and a hilarious lyricist, unapologetically body-positive and, as her Instagram followers know, committed to playing her flute on stage whenever possible.
Lizzo, 30, makes great songs, and recruited the artist who basically is her rap fairy godmother, Missy Elliott, to join her on her new song “Tempo.”
The Minneapolis native – born Melissa Jefferson – is readying her third studio album “Cuz I Love You” for an April 19 release. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, she shared a selfie with Elliott.
“Missy, you are the inspiration of my entire career,” she wrote. “When you dropped music videos...or SHUT DOWN award shows I felt SEEN. You made this chubby, weird, black girl believe that ANYTHING was possible . ... Till this day you continue to inspire me to make my dreams come true.”
