Ariana Grande, ‘Monopoly’

- – Maeve McDermott

With her song “Monopoly,” Ariana Grande has boosted one of her favorite co-writers to featuredartist status. Victoria Monet, the 25-year-old singer/ songwriter who has written hits for Grande including “thank u, next,” got top billing on Grande’s song “Monopoly,” which they released by surprise on Monday. The single turned heads with Grande fans with a lyric in the chorus, in which she sings, “I like women and men.” Grande let listeners know on Twitter that she wasn’t interested in commenting on her sexuality, writing that she “(hasn’t) before haven’t still don’t feel the need to” clarify her preferences, “which is okay.” Grande was much more interested in galvanizing her social media followings – she’s currently the mostfollowed woman on Instagram – to celebrate her and Monet’s new song, calling her co-writer and friend a “beautiful and extraordinary human/artist” in an Instagram post.
